  1. There are two round towers to be seen at Clonmacnoise and one of them is not finished but it was at one time. The monks got a mason to build the tower and told him that they would give him a sum of money when he would have it built. The mason agreed to do so and started at his work. As time went on the tower was getting higher and higher until finally it was finished. Of course the man was high up and had to have ladders to get up or down. Just as the mason had finished, the monks took down the ladders and left the man on the top of the tower. They did this because they did not like to give the sum of money they had promised him and
