  1. I
    The sun was going down from behind,
    To repose on some far distant wave,
    And the evening star twinkling on high,
    To my spirits sweet influence gave.
    Calm silence pervaded the trees,
    Every bird was at rest on each bough;
    As I sought for a cooling retreat,
    By the Binnlisheen Aerach an Bhrogha
    II
    Whilst reclining alone 'midst the trees,
    And inhaling the soft stealing breeze;
    I espied a fair mournful maid,
    As she carelessly walked through the trees.
    Her looks were distracted, and pale
    Was the hand that she raised to her brow,
    As she murmured a sorrowful tale
    By the Binnlisheen Aerach an Bhrogha.
    III
    "Oh ye streamlets" she said "and ye brooks"
    That murmured along by the grove,
    Say! will ye yet restore the fond looks
    Of that beautiful lad that I love?
    He's gone o'er a far distant wave,
    He's gone from his loved one, and now
    I must wander alone by the shades
    Of the Binnlisheen Aerach an Bhrogha.
