   In the month of September 1642 the Irish army took Liscarroll Castle but were defeated in the battle the following day at a great loss. In the month of September 1643 there was truce of arms but the day after the truce the Irish in these parts, some of whom up to then had taken no part in the war seized the following land and castles - Bregoge, Ballinguile, Ballincurrig, Lisgriffin, Ballinagrath, Ballyadam, Churchtown, and Ballymacow - but as the entry of the Irish in these places was illegal they were given up again in March 1644. In the year 1645 The Irish army took nearly all the English Castles in the County Cork. Liscarroll castle, one of the strongest in Ireland was taken without
