- (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)The ruins of an ancient priory still exist. Some authorities state it was built by the patron saint (Benjamin Berihert) of the district. Others state that it was built long after the saint’s death to accommodate the monks of the Augustinian Order who were subsequently (in 1415) transferred to great priory of Kells in Ossory.The Saint’s house is almost level with the ground. There was a belief that stones taken from this house, had the virtue of protecting their possessor against fire and storm. On St. Ben’s Day, 16th February, the people for miles around come to pray at two holy wells, one dedicated to The Blessed Virgin, the other to St. Berithert. A graveyard surrounds the ruins. Some veins of Culm were discovered, and coal is also believed to be available but the seams were(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
