1. A Story of Daniel O'Connell

   I heard the following story from my mother.
   When Daniel was in England collecting money for the Irish cause he approached a big hotel keeper to give him something towards the fund and the hotel keeper insulted deeply. O'Connell swore he would have his own back on the keeper.
   He went to a camp of tinkers and picked out two of the smartest men there. He got them dressed up as two gentlemen. He bought them two trunks and packed them with tin and all tools necessary for their work and also a full supply of eatables.
   He gave them ten pounds and told them to go to this hotel and take a room for a month and also to take their trunks to the room and lock their door. They carried out all his instructions. When the hotel keeper awoke next morning he heard a loud hammering of tins. He knocked at the door and demanded admittance but he only hammered louder, and of course when they had paid for the room he could do nothing. When they had a batch of tins made they raised the window and threw them out into the streets. A crow
