The old people believed in bowing to the New Moon and saying three Hail Marys as a preventive against toothache or to refrain from eating meat on Saturday or a man shaving on Sunday. A child born with a tooth also had the cure of the toothache but whether the child or the parents could not take any money for cures as the cure was lost if they did.
