- In the middle of the eighteenth century were not so numerous as they are now. Men and horses were well accustomed to carry great loads as there were few carts. At this time there lived far up in Gleneasky a man named John Higgens. He got married and wanted to build a house. He got two creels and went to man, who burned lime to miles away. The lime-burner wanted to play a trick in this young man and said to him, "If you carry the full of the 'pardog' I will give it to you for nothing." The young man agreed. The 'pardog' full was believed to contain five barrels of lime. It was raised on his back.
