  1. Long ago there lived a giant in Scotland and at the same time there lived a giant in Ireland. The Scotch giant thought himself a great fighter and he challenged the Irish giant. When he came to Ireland in search of the Irish giant he went into a house to inquire for him. This house was where the Irish giant lived. When he saw the Scotch giant coming he went into a cradle and pretended to be a baby. The Scotch giant went up to the cradle and talked to the baby. The giants put his finger into the baby's mouth to see if it had any teeth. The baby bit the finger off him. The Irish giants wife pretended to be the baby mother asked the Scotch giant to wait for tea. She made cakes for the tea and left pieces of the griddle in them.
    When he started his tea he thought the bread was very hard but he did not like to say so. A little while afterwards he
