Saint Joseph was the sponsor of the Blessed Virgin and Foster Father of Jesus Christ. He was a carpenter and worked at the carpenter trade all day long in their home at Nazareth and provided for their home until Jesus was able to help him. St Joseph and the Blessed Virgin were very poor and St Joseph and the blessed Virgin went round begging for food and no one gave it to them everyone turned them out. They had to go barefooted. When the soldiers were looking for him he shed blood and the robin sat on every drop of blood and that is how he got the red breast. Where the blood dropped there grew up wheat the next day. "Robin red breast in a cage sets all heaven in a rage."
