  1. 1) Dean Swift was a great writer who lived in Quilca house which is near here. He was born in Dublin and used to visit his friends the Sheridans in Quilca. He wrote "Gulliver's Travels" in Quilca.

    2) Richard Brinsley Sheridan was born in Dublin and used to visit his uncle in Quilca and get some of his plays acted on a grassy stage still to be seen on the opposite side of the road.
Some of the plays he wrote were "The School for Scandal" and the "Rivals". The actors in the plays often rode from Dublin in the clothes they would wear at the plays.
An old woman who lived near Cross often saw Sheridan and his friends ride by in their stage clothes going from Quilca to Dublin after acting plays in Quilca.

    3) General Phil Sheridan was born at Beagh Kilinkere about a mile and a half from this school where his house is still to be seen on the side of the road. The house is lofted and slated all but the room where he was born and it is one storyed and thatched. There is a marble slab bearing his name here.
General Phil's mother brought him to Drogheda and thence to England from whence to America when he was only seven months old
