  1. An old man named Myles Carolan who lived in the neighbourhood and who died about 10 years ago aged 90 had a great reputation locally as a fast runner.
It is said that one Sunday evening when he was about 30 years old he was resting against a grassy ditch near Maghera Chapel which is about 5 miles from Cross and a hare dashed out through a gap beside him and the men he was chatting with.
Myles threw off his jacket quickly and took after the hare which he gradually overhauled and at last caught by one of the hind legs as she went through a gap.
