had potatoes and butter milk and sometimes meat for their dinner. They had boxty and oaten for their supper and sometimes stirabout.
Potatoes were usually eaten at every meal. Butter milk was drank. People sat around a basket of potatoes on the middle of the floor and would eat their dinner. The basket was placed on a pot. The basket was hung upon the wall when not in use.
Oaten bread, boxty and potato cakes were eaten. The way oaten bread was made was, oaten meal, water and salt were mixed together and it was made flat. Then it was put to the fire on an iron and was left there until it was baked. The way (the potatoes were boiled, then) a potato cake was made was, the potatoes were boiled, then the skins were taken off them. When that was done they were broken up and a handful of flour mixed through them. The mixture was made flat and it was put on a pan.
