    taught them until the national schools came into force, he gave up teaching after that. He died shortly after that in the little house.

    There were two hedge schools in this district. One was in Rosmead Bog where John Castle's is living now and the other was in Clonarney.
    JOHN CASTLES' grandfather taught in the ROSMEAD SCHOOL. In a little house with two rooms and two small windows in it.
    He taught the people reading and writing. The people used quills for pens and they made their own ink out of the bark of oak and of flaggers.
    Chalk or black-boards were unknown then and the masters had to write the headlines on the top of the page.
    BISHOP MOORE who was Bishop of Florida attended this Hedge school.
    Long ago there was an old turf cutter in Rosmead who lived next door to where Bishop Moore lived. Beside Bishop (John) Moores' house there was a pond and the children used to throw clods into this pool to vex
