   used to be said many years ago. In this room there was an altar and a press for holding the vestments and the chalice. Mass was said in it from 1878 to 1885.

   It is tradition among the people that in the Penal Days when it was a crime to be a priest that many of them got safe refuge in Grennanstown House. They were hidden in a great double wall which is yet in the house. Many a time it was searched and always the search proved fruitless.

   Grennanstown House is supposed to be the oldest house in the County Meath as it is over seven hundred years of age. The walls inside of the house are about ten feet in width, as it was a hiding place for the priests long ago when Cromwells was in the country. Part of the walls
