Pádraig Taidg O Donohue Tómas óg Malony and Mairtín Molony when young men used to cross the land from their homes at Cnoc-na-grága near Creagán Buise, to Creg Uí brain a distance of about two miles and pick 1,000 hazel rods for scallops (i.e. 10 hundred with 120 rods in each bundle making 1200 rods in all) and carry them home on their backs. People in those days used to eat only two meals daily during the winter months so before they would eat their dinners they used to count and compare their rods to see who had the biggest load.
Padraig Taidg still lives and is about 78 years.
The two Molonys deceased were brothers of the late Rev John Molony P.P. Ennistymon.
