    When going out on a journey:-
    O my God direct my steps. I beseech thee in the paths of salvation now and for ever. Amen.
    Before going to sleep.
    "as I lay down this night to sleep
    I give my soul to God to keep
    and if I die before I wake
    I give my soul to God to take
    There are four corners on my bed
    There are four angels over my head
    one to guide me, one to guard me,
    and two to carry my soul to God.
    St. Matthew, St. Mark, St. Luke, St. John,
    God bless me in this bed I lay on"
    "If any evil thing should come upon me
    may our lord be the branch may our lady be the flower,
    Oh sweet Jesus be with me in my dying hour"
    "I return three thanks O lord for health and strength, eye sight, and the use of my limbs. Protect and guard me for a sudden and unprovided (?) death and give me a long and happy life in this world"
