- The most harmful weeds growing on our farm are nettles, thisles and puch-ac-wee or corn kale. These weeds are very harmful because they spread rapidly and because they destroy the soil.
Where the soil is rich thistles and corn kale will grow very rapidly. Nettles are found where the land is poor.
Certain herbs are used for making medicine the Marshmallow, Mac-e daw-how, Botany-Bay, Wild Sage and Garlic. The Marshmallow is used for a sore. Mac-e-daw-how is a cure for a worm, Wild Sage is a cure for a hurt, and Garlic is a cure for a swelling.
The herbs are boiled before using. When the Wild Sage is boiled people drink the water as medicine. Herbs were used greatly in former times for cures. Quack doctors used them. Many sufferers were cured(continues on next page)- Collector
