    People used to bake a large cake that night in olden times and then cut it in pieces and fire it hard against the door. The doing of this was supposed to keep away the famine for the year. It was supposed that it was the plan adopted after the Gorta.

    During the time of the Fenian's. An English Soldier came to Coosane - He asked (being disguised but he was recognised) a woman "Where are the Fenian's"
    "Oh" said she, I know but I cant tell you until tomorrow. He came on the to morrow.
    "Well now" said he, I have come again, "do tell me where they are". She then stood at the door and said aloud "Fin" "Fin" "Fin".
    All the ducks ran towards her. There now said she, are all the Finians.
