  1. About seventy years ago there were three schools in this district. Two in churchstrand near Baltimore and one near Lough Ine a little below where the present school is built. One of these were covered with slate and the other two had thatch roofs. The teacher of one of the church-strand schools was Mr Tim Shine formerly of Kerry he was afterwards assisted by his two sons. It is stated that this famiely received a saluary of sixty pounds a year, one or twopence per week from each pupil according to each standard.
    The father died and the sons continued teaching until the present Natnioral School was built then they went to Canada. The school which was attached to the building was held by three brothers Fitzgeralds. It is not known wheather they received any
