There are the ruins of an old castle in Clonburren. The windows are all broken and the steps are burnt. It is in a field owned by Mr Thompson. The castle was owned and built by the Fitzpatricks of Upper Ossory. It is in the townland of Clonburren in the Parish of Rathdowney in the barony of Clandonagh and in the County of Laoighis.
There is a dark hole in it. There is a stone near the castle in which is the mark of a man's knees where he knelt to be shot.
There is another castle in Castlepierce and another in Tullow in Mr Larkin's field.
There is an old castle near Birr and it was built by a man named Darby of the Leap. It is in Offaly in the Parish of Birr. Darby was a terrible tyrant.
