- What a desolate country Ireland would be, if some famous deeds were not done, by some of the ancient people? Some people are good at running, more at weight throwing. Famous among all these was a man the name of Thomas Keenan of Shrananaugh, who carried a twenty stone sack of flour up a steep hill, which was leading to his own home. He was also a swift runner. He often ran to Sligo from home. Any place he competed running, at football, events or sports, he was always the winner. He was more famous at weight throwing than at anything, and often walked long distances to fairs. He often walked sixty miles or more to a fair.
