  1. Local Festival Customs
St Stephens Day falls on the twenty-sixth of December. In olden times it was the custom to chase the wren. But now a days the boys go out for sport. The disguise themselves in a most ludicrous oty and go from house to house geathering money. Some boy's spend it very badly and perhaps fight about the dividing of it, while others give it to a destitute old Man or Woman.
In olden times St. Patrick's Day used to be celebrated very badly. All the old spleens used to be fought out on that day at the Fair at Caskey. They had a belief that it would not be right if they would not "drown the Shamrock".
On Brígid ógs Night the boy dress up an old doll to represent Biddy, then they have some kind of music. They ask things in Biddy's name, they would take, flour, tea, sugar, and, eggs.
