- The Penal Days.
In the Penal days the Catholics of Ireland suffered hard cruelties.
In those days there lived in Ballykilcash a young married woman who had one infant. She was a catholic and was poor. One day she was preparing to make a churning, and she had a pot of boiling water on the floor beside the churn, when two British soldiers came in. They asked the woman for a drink, and when she turned her back to get it one of the soldiers took the infant, placed it in the churn and poured the boiling water over it. They then left, leaving the woman to mourn her loss.M. K. KennyCollected from:-
