  1. In olden times the people grew their own oats and brought it to the mill and ground it ground and made int oatenmeal and made oaten bread of it. The put 6 or 4 lbs of meal in a basin and a small bit of margarine or lard and knead it up Sometimes it would be put on a thing called a griddle and baked in ront of the fire. The people long ago used Boxly[?] the grated up potatoes and put it in a bag and squeeze the water off it. It was made into Dumplings.
