  1. Candle Making
    About 65 years ago, Kate Mac Cormick lived in a place called the Cools. She was a farmer's daughter and was noted for making candles.
    Whenever her father killed a sheep or a cow she collected the waste fat and rendered it down in a big pan. She strained it, then, and put in a small crock. After that she'd get a stick and link a 1/2 a dozen cords of equal length on it. She'd dip those into the thick tallow and pull them out again. She allowed them to harden. She kept on doing this until her candles were the same thickness as our candles are
