  1. One day, 15 years ago, as a man named John Browne of Carne was ploughing in a field in Ballygarra, Carne, about 1 1/2 miles on the Carne side of Lady's Island, a heavy thunder-storm came on. He was obliged to leave off working, and bring in the horses. As he was crossing the road, there was a terrible flash of lightning, which tore up the road, and moved in a portion of a wall, about 4 inches from the rest.
The wall was blackened as if by fire, and is still to be seen, as so also is the piece of wall which was shifted.
