At James O Grady's house in Ballyvanna, near Crusheen, about eight miles north of Ennis five sheep were killed and there were also many geese and hams, and two kegs of whiskey and four half barrels of porter not to mention all the mineral waters and wines. The invited guests consisted of friends and neighbours for a radius of ten miles and some declared that they did not get nearly half enough (?) or whiskey, and others were so drunk that they beat each other coming home, but after the row they swore that they would be forever friends.
It was the custom for every family to keep a goose for Shrove Tuesday night in case there would be a wedding on that night and then they would have a fat fowl ready if they were invited.
At John O'Gorman's house in Drumbanniffe about six miles north of Ennis straw boys came and danced for a long. They got a grand reception.(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
