- Before the revival of the Irish language when the people heard the long names of fields and did not know Irish they did not know the meaning of them or know how to pronounce them but later on they learned the use and meaning of the names. Some names of fields in our district are Cathair na gCat, The Stothan, The Galla, The Grogan, The Rasan, Páirc na né, Páirc an tobar, Poll a’ madaidh, Gobach field, and the Cnoc Maol.The Stothan got that name they say because it was never laboured and is a very high and hilly field.The Grogan is a very small field and a lot of little blackthorn bushes grow there. The Galla was called so because it was a wet and “spouty” field and rushes grow in it.The Rasan is a small field and a lot of furze grows there. This is a(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
