1. Composition - The Local Fairs (ar lean)

   in places at which there were no towns for example Muff. Mallaghcrew, Ballytrain, and Slane. Up to this day and for years past dealers came out to the country and buy cattle especially when cattle are dear and a keen demand on them. They buy not only cattle but pigs and horses. The fairs that used to be held in places in which there are no towns are almost all done away with. The reason for this because the farmers naturally prefer to sell in the town for business reasons. There are not any places in the neighbourhood where fairs were held in years gone by. I never heard of any being held in forts. The fairs in Carrickmacross are held on the streets and on the streets in Castleblayney also but
