The forge is a very easy house to recognise as there are heaps of old shoes and old irons outside it invariably.
Our local forge is Martin's in Carrickmacross as it is the nearest one to us. He is a very good trades-man and does a lot of work mending farm implements and also shoes a great lot of horses.
Beside the hearth in a blacksmiths shop is a great stone trough in which water is always kept for cooling the irons. This water is supposed to be a great cure for warts(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Faisnéiseoir
