About a hundred years ago there fell a terrible blight on the potato crop and caused thousands of people in Ireland to die of starvation. A few years later spraying the potatoes was started and this helped to keep the blight away.
Potatoes are grown on our farm at home and in every part of Ireland. There is about one acre and a half sown under potatoes every year on our holding.
The preparation for the potato crop takes a considerable time. The stubble ground is ploughed in January for the potatoes and in February or March it is crossed ploughed and then it is harrowed(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
