  1. Long ago there was a man whose name was the "Gobán Saor." There are a great number of stories connected with this man, and this is one of them.
    One time his father wanted to get a wise woman to marry him and he then thought of a plan. His plan was, to knot up a piece of thread so tangled that it would take a wise woman to open the knot.
    So he made up his mind to around to each house until he would get some woman to open it. He started on his journey, and on reaching the first house, he gave it to the woman. This woman could not open the knot.
    Then he set out for another, and on reaching it, he left the thread to the woman to open it. She kept it for several days, but in vain, she had to return it.
    Then he journeyed on to the next house, and he left it to the woman. This
