Ar an leathanach seo

  1. During the famine years the people suffered great hardships in this locality. Sickness followed the famine, and hundreds died from it. The house now known as Tanderagee House was built as a hospital during those times. A well in a field beside it is still known locally as "the hospital well."
    Government relief grants were given, and "yellow meal" or Indian meal was then seen in this country for the first time. A stone of yellow meal per week was given to the head of each poor family. Soup kitchens were established in this town - one in the house occupied by Mr Sam Clarke, Main St, Bailieboro, and another beside the Court House. The people went there with their tin porringers and got their ration of soup
