Ar an leathanach seo

  1. The Bread used in olden times was Potato Bread, Oaten Bread, Wheaten Bread and Boxty Bread. The Oaten Bread was made from oats ground into meal in the local mills.
    People living at present do not remember querns or grinding stones in the district. But the old people used to say that there was a grinding stone in the townland of Ardlow.
    When making Potato Bread they peeled boiled potatoes and mashed them very finely. Then they mixed flour with the mashed potatoes and kneaded it into a dough. Then they flattened it out into the shape of a pancake and put it on a pan to bake. Sometimes they ate it with butter and sometimes they fried it in grease.
    Oaten Bread is made by putting some oaten meal on the bread board. Sometimes they mixed a grain of salt with it. Then they poured boiling water on it and flattened it out. They put it on standing against an iron
