  1. The townland I live in is Cormaddyduff in the parish of Castlerahan and in the barony of Castlerahan.
    There are twenty five families and seventy two people in it.
    The most common name in it is Farrelly. The types of houses that are in it are mostly slated with the exception of a few that are thatched or galvanised.
    Everyone knows how it got its name: Where now stands the stone and mortar bridge at Kearney's crossroads there used to be a wooden bridge. It was made from black oak. When these sticks were rotten then were taken away and a stone bridge was built. There was no name on it at this time and it was called "Corr Maide Duibhe" meaning "the town of the black stick".
