  1. Long ago the people of Ireland celebrated every feast day that came in a way peculiar to themselves.
    On St. Stephen's day the boys always have great fun going round with the wren they gather together and go to the houses and play music, sing songs and dance.
    On St Brigid's day the young members of the family went out in the evening and pulled rushes and brought them in and put them on the table. They had a feast on the table and when it was over they all made crosses in honour of St Brigid.
    On Halloweve the woman used to be very busy grating boxty to make dumplings which they boiled in a pot. When they were done they were stewed in bacon on the pan and served hot with tea and they considered this the grandest feast they could have. The children
