  1. Signs of the weather
When we are going to have good weather, in the evening the sun sets red, and the smoke goes up straight from the chimney. The bumbee and bat flys out after sun-set. When the robin sings on the top branch of a tree. When the swallows fly high and when a thunder-storm opens in south and settle in the north.
When we are going to have bad weather
The hollow winds begin to blow.
    the clouds look black,
    the soot falls down,
the spiders from their cobwebs creep,
Last night the sun went pale to bed,
the moon in hollow hid her head, the rain-bow spans the sky,
the walls are damp, close is the pin eyed pimperd nell.
    The chairs and tables crack,
Old Betty's joints are on the rack,
Loud quack the ducks, the peacocks cry,
The distant hills are looking nigh,
the frog has changed his yellow vest,
The dog quit mutton bones and feasts on grass
The crows are on the flight, and, the blazes in the fire look blue and red, green, and white
