- Long ago the people thought it unlucky to start any work on a Saturday. Some people to this day would never begin work on Saturday. They say "Saturday's beginning has a short ending" They also say "Saturday's flitting is a short sitting. No people go to fish on Whit Sunday or Whit Monday, with fear they would be drowned. It is also said that if you take any disease on either of these two days you could never be cured. It is generally a pain in the side that is taken.
Saint Swithen's day falls on the fifteenth of July. If it rains on this day it will rain for forty days. When Saint Swithen was dying he told the people to bury him along the chapel wall so that the dew of heaven would(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
