The chief idol long ago in Ireland was in Ballymagovern.

There was gate going up to Taylor's house and it was all slats. They were so close together that nothing could get through. In the middle of of the gate was a round hole. The hare used to go this hole when she would be chased by dogs as she could reach the house quicker.

    (ar lean ón leathanach roimhe)
The chief idol long ago in Ireland was in Ballymagovern.
    It was called Cromm Cruach.
One time St Patrick came and smashed Cromm Cruach and his sub Gods twelve. The idols were inlaid with gold and used to be worshipped by the people. Every year the High King and his retinue used to come from Tara to worship the idol. After Patrick cursed and smashed the idols, the people no more came to worship there.
