- There is a tree growing on a mound in Mr Aaron Burns' Yard in Knockenree. This tree is alive. After the Wexford Rebellion an Irishman was about to be hanged from one of its branches - and it has many. A man named Prussia Waters rode into the yard and cut the rope and saved the man's life.
Mrs Alexander - Knockenree - heard this from her father - Mr Burns. Knockenree. Mr John Murphy - Knockenree says the name of the man about to be hanged was Treacy and those about to hang him were the yeomanry. There are Treacys in Knockenree yet, and this man is said to be an ancestor of theirs.
