in 1798 Dunlavin was what was called a garrison town and the "Marked House" was the headquarters. The "Marked House"is an old and historic building. It is used now as a court house. It is a high, gloomy building, with a dome shaped roof. There is two spaces on either sides of the dome, in which a double-faced clock is installed. "The Market House was used by the English soldiers as a prison.
