- The month of May is very unlucky for people who get married. Many people wait until Shrove comes. It is supposed to be the luckiest time of the year. On the wedding day there are many customs. When the couple are going on their honeymoon the parents tie an old shoe to the back of the vechicle in which they are travelling. The people also throw an old shoe after them both of which customs are supposed to bring good luck to the married couple. There is always a breakfast held in the bride's house on the wedding morning to which are invited relations and friends In olden times straw used to visit the house looking for drink and money. The stray boys are dressed very funny. They wear rools of straw from the ankles(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
