- In this district there are few thatched houses remaining. When these require thatch a man from Drana named Edward Curran thatches them.
It is done with straw, wheaten straw or oaten is the best. The straw is pulled into small bundles called latches. It is thrust into a hole in the roof and is held there by small sticks called scollops.
