- The History of Ballykilmurry castles including Ballycowan.
There are two castles in Ballykilmurry. It seems that they were connected with each other. There was a name on the near one in Ballykilmurry. Some say that the name was Lord Griffith and the two castles were connected by an under ground passage. The same passage extended to Ballycowan and went through the canal and extended to an old ruin called O'Molloy's in Kilgurtin.
When my uncle, Pat Burke owned Ballykilmurry he took two stone carved heads - a man's and a woman's - from the walls of Ballykilmurry castle and got them stuck on the outside(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)- Bailitheoir
