attached to the house in which I live and John Graham, Father to William Graham, who gave me this information attended this school. The teacher's name was Mr Hendrick, he also taught in barns belonging to Patrick (Coady?), Rathnure, James Hughes, (Gurraun) and James (Forrestal), Rathnure.
There was also a hedge school held in the corner of the present graveyard in Rathnure and it is supposed that John Kelly, the hero of Killanne taught there before the Rebellion of 1798 broke out.
The hedge schools ceased in this district when the first National School was built in Ballybawn in the year 1831.
