  1. Laurence Gahan, the local poet, wrote several poems. I knew Laurence, when going to School. He was born in Ballinockerish in 1879, and received all his education from my father.
At the age of 16 he was apprenticed to the drapery business in Dublin.
He wrote the following poems, "Where the Boro Waters Flow," "My Irish Mother's Grave",
"The New Raid," "Un-holy War", "A Patriot's Toast", "My First Communion Day"
"Have Faith", "An Old Man's Story," "Dermot O'Hea," and his last one was "Drifting down the Slaney's Breast". In the beginning of this book I have given his poem "Where the Boro Waters Flow".
His pen name was at first "Woodside Cottage, and then, he changed it to "Scollagh Gap".
