- Churning. June 28th, 1938.I have a churn at home. It is about two foot high. It is a foot wide at the top and 2 feet wide at the bottom. It has round sides. I do not know the exact age of the churn. I was told it would be about 17 or 18 years old. The various parts are called the dash and the handle. The handle is fitted into the dash and the dash is in the churn and the handle outside at the right end of the churn. There is a lid on the top of the churn to keep the milk from splashing out when the handle is turned. There is no mark on the side or bottom of the churn. There is a little hole in the bottom of the churn to let out the milk but that is not used. The churning is done once or twice a week both in winter and summer, only when the cows are not milking and that could happen either in summer or winter.Tom Redmond, Ballinastraw, Monamolin, Gorey.
