- Fairies usually live in forts or some other place like that. They hardly ever dwell near human dwelling houses. There is a story told of a fairy who carried away a human man. Some time before the fairy done (did) this the man had difficult dealings with another fairy, so difficult that it went to a fight. The man beat the fairy, but the fairy said he would reaenge the deed on him in some other way. So this is how he done (did) it. The man was a traveller and he used to sleep in hay-sheds along the road or in old forsaken houses. This night he slept in an old house in the middle of a fort. He slept soundly until midnight. He was awakened by a great noise - thunder, lightning, and other noises. Suddenly it all ceased and he saw a great big light and again darkness. "My God", says he, "Is the world coming to an end?"
