  1. There was a man drowned in Lough Gowna, named Bernard Garvey. He went out in a leaking boat along with James Quinn, from Killoe. When they were out a bit in the lake they saw they were in danger. They saw a rock, and they leaped out of the boat to the rock. Quinn came safe, but Garvey missed his step, and fell into the lake and was drowned. The other lad went for help and for the Guards. When the Guards came they got him but he was dead. They took him to the nearest house and left him there until his parents came and brought him home to Drumsna to bury him. He was a fine young boy, and was going to be a priest.
    There was a house of Patrick Lee's burned. He lived in the parish of Clonbroney. He had a public house and he used to keep a lot of horses. One day he went out riding one of the horses. It was late in the night when he got back. He put in the horse and foddered him. He had a candle lit in the stable, and he forgot to quench it. The horse knocked down the candle, which set the house on fire. Lee heard the noise and got up out of bed. He saw the stable on fire. He tried to get out the horses, but he could not. Then he
