  1. There was once an Irishman who went over to England to seek employment as a labourer in agriculture. As he was going along the road who struck out before him but two Englishmen. They said to another that they would play some trick on Paddy, the Irishman. Didn't one of them leave down his watch along the side of the road. He watched to see would the Irishman lift it when he would come to it. When Paddy came up to where the watch was he took it up and put it into his pocket, and went along. The Englishmen went along easy till the Irishman overtook them. They asked him did he get a watch on the road, and he said "No". They said they saw him lift it, but Paddy denied at the time and kept the watch. They brought him to court as he would not give it up.
    It was in Dan O'Connell's time this happened, and Paddy asked O'Connell how he would manage as he did not want
